When I saw a picture of Wired's Mech at Comic Con I was in awe. This is worth a watch if you have a few minutes and like exoskeletons (who doesn't?).


Business Insider has a nice list for this morning. I'm not sure I really care about all ten things they list, but they are nice to know. Four of them are about Jeff Bezos buying The Washington Post. The two that caught my eye were the fifty people that showed up to volunteer for a one-way trip to Mars and a third-party Apple iPhone power cable electrocuted a woman to death.

Wired's Gadget Lab lists seven things they love, including the new Nokia Lumia 1020, a phone with a 41-megapixel camera. I researched that phone the other day. Too bad it is a Windows Phone 8.

I'm always looking for the best iPad Apps. Most of these are the ones are the solid ones that have been around for a while, but it's a good list to review periodically. Maybe my apps will be on the list someday. (Ha!) 50 Must-Have iPad Apps

In the Gaming World

Being a veteran WoW player (now retired - again) I'm always fascinated by how Blizzard intends to handle the subscription problem. Content is no longer good enough for the $15/month payment (IMO). I also read that Blizzard has lost another 600,000 subscribers (I don't know what time frame that is). This is a good low-end option computer. My youngest daughter just got a new computer, but she needs MS Word, so this isn't what she got. Still, it's worth a look. I'm still doing research to choose Darling's next phone. This might be a good choice. Samsung likely to unveil new Galaxy Note on Sept. 4


Darling and I are seriously considering dropping cable entirely. We should be able to pick up the shows we like using other venues. Anyone have any ideas on how to make that happen? I really like my Sci-Fi…Steep cable price hikes could soon make cord-cutting a reality

    Always enjoy your tidbits...got a kick out of the mini-cooper camper...but if I could afford to buy a mini-cooper I would just rent a nice motel room.....we just spent a weekend up north in a pop up (got it used for $100) about 3 times the size of the mini, and that was still too small for me....a farmer up here built his own camper out of a remodeled cattle trailer,,,it looks nice and all, but the faint aroma of bovine still lingers....

I signed up for The Bauman Letter, edited by Ted Bauman and read it for a few months. His father is a well-known member of The Sovereign Society and Ted contributed for years. I like Ted's writing style and read his letter for the nuggets of information I could glean. One month he recommended a company in Australia for holding my gold. FBAR Scam, but not illegal

FBAR (not to be confused with FUBAR, but the one can lead to the other) is a government required Foreign Bank Account Reporting that you must file if you have one or more foreign bank accounts that total more than $10,000 in assets. It is another of the methods the USA uses to track illegal drug trafficking money. I won't comment on how effective it all is, but there is a sort-of scam you need to be aware of. Yeah, you didn't want to read all that. Here's the scam. If you google FBAR, the very first link reads: Fbar Filing - FinCEN Foreign Bank Accounts Form - eFileFBAR.com and links to www.efilefbar.com. Don't click it! It's a legitimate link and they ask you all the correct FBAR questions. When you finish, they want you to pay them $350 to file for you ! Go to the FREE Government Link The government web site asks exactly the same questions, in exactly the same order and then lets you file for  FREE  with the USA. So what the "efilefbar...

Mom would have been 78 this year. Happy Birthday, Mom. When our cousins laughed and told my youngest brother that Grandma Jen wasn't our Grandma he just smiled and walked away. "She's my Grandma," he said. When they told me, I was irate. I was eight years older than my youngest brother, and I knew it wasn't possible for Grandma to be my cousins' great Aunt. I also hate being confused and I knew Grandma Jen was our Grandma. In a family tree Grandma Jen was our great Aunt, our real grandmother's younger sister. We have very little information on our grandmother. Elva Gertrude Elston was born in Sanilac County, Brown City, Michigan in 1915. She left the farm and her family and moved to the big city of Detroit when she was eighteen. According to relatives she never used the name Elva, but went by the name Peggy. She was very beautiful.
